Cheryl is the managing director for CornerSquare Community Capital. Prior to joining the CornerSquare’s team, she worked as a regional director for assistive technology and business development at Self-Help Credit Union, where she was responsible for developing strategic partnerships at the state and national level and leading implementation of strategic priorities that drove growth and expansion. During her tenure at Self-Help, she was also a regional director for retail operations responsible for overseeing credit union operations to support growth, sales, and service delivery for branches across eastern North Carolina.
Cheryl has almost two decades of experience as a senior level executive, having served as president/general manager of St. Luke Credit Union, executive vice president of Generations Community Credit Union, senior accountant for the corporate office of ChannelAdvisor, and an accounting professor at Shaw University.
Cheryl is active in the community, serving on several boards and commissions throughout North Carolina and the country, including the Roanoke Chowan Partners for Progress (RCPP2), Olamina Fund (Candide Group), National Disability Finance Coalition, and Youth Education for Savings Consortium, Inc. Her volunteer and charitable giving efforts extend to several organizations, including local churches, community development finance institutions (CDFIs), schools, and non-profit disability and health agencies.
Cheryl attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, receiving both a bachelor’s in public health and a master’s degree in accounting. She also graduated from the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions (NFCDCU) Institute and is a Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC). Cheryl has completed the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Course, with certification pending. A Bertie County native, Cheryl currently resides in Greenville, North Carolina with her husband, Marshall, and they are the proud parents of two daughters and three sons.
